The UN fund handling payments of Iraqi war reparations to Kuwait says it released a further $430 million to Kuwait earlier this week (IOD Jul.29,p4). Before the latest instalment, Baghdad had owed $25.2 billion in compensation for its 1990 invasion. The money was handed over only days after UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon suggested the rest of the compensation could be used for joint Iraqi-Kuwaiti investment in Iraqi reconstruction projects.
