Todd Dills plans to give away 432 car-cleaning kits this month, one to each dealership customer who comes in for scheduled maintenance. The service manager at Ewing Auto-haus Mercedes-Benz near Dallas is getting the word out through a recorded audio message that goes to his customers' vehicles, not through the radio but through the telematics system. Dealers know telematics as a package they can tout to car buyers - features such as turn-by-turn navigation and automatic crash notification. But it's slowly becoming a tool for dealers to stay in touch with those customers.
