Nissan car navigation helps eke out a green mile

Most car navigation systems simply find the fastest route from point A to point B. Nissan Motor Co.'s latest offering also helps drivers find the greenest. The feature is called eco-drive. It was introduced in 2007 as a standard service on Nissan's Carwings onboard computer navigation system. The Japanese government was so impressed with the concept, it awarded the product this year's Energy Conservation Prize. Eco-drive does more than just track fuel efficiency and chart personal performance. It ranks your driving record against other Carwings members, gives tips on how to cut fuel consumption and then calculates how much money you've saved on gasoline over time.
