LONDON (ICIS)--The European caprolactam (capro) market witnessed a different ending in 2016 to previous years, as a jump in feedstock benzene prices in a seasonally quiet month like December made the contract price negotiations quite a challenging task. However, the strong upward trend of benzene spot prices and the improvement of crude oil prices led to some players restocking rather than destocking, keeping December demand unusually strong, in an attempt to avoid paying any higher prices in January.
