Additions to Saudi Aramco’s Oil and Gas Reserves in 2015 Will Considerably Exceed its Production

In his end-of-year speech published in Saudi Aramco’s corporate review, The Arabian Sun, the Saudi national oil company’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Khalid al-Falih, described 2014 as an “extraordinary” year for Saudi Aramco, despite the volatility of the oil market. In the upstream sector, the exploration division had succeeded in discovering “eight new fields, and the oil and gas reserves that we will book this year will significantly exceed our annual production,” noted Mr. al-Falih. The development of the Manifa field had largely been completed, while the expansion of the Shaybah field to step up its capacity from 750,000 barrels/day to 1 million b/d was continuing. “We made significant progress on our unconventional gas program, and also on our massive Wasit gas program and Shaybah NGL [natural gas liquids] project-the combination of which will provide feedstock for chemicals production, cleaner fuel for power generation to the kingdom, and support our economic diversification goals.”
