Petro-Canada Plans to Drill a Well on the Offshore Mellita Tract

The Medoun-1 well,drilled by Petro-Canada on the Mellita exploration tract,has been plugged and abandoned.The well targeted the Meloussi formation,while another is planned that will target the Zeebag formation in one of the five offshore structures identified on the block.This formation is producing in North Africa.Petro-Canada is operator of the Mellita tract in association with another Canadian company,Centurion Energy International.Following the farm-in agreement concluded between the two companies,Centurion Energy did not share the cost of the Medoun-1 well.Petro-Canada has signed a contract for the lease of a jack-up rig that will become available in the last quarter of this year.Centurion Energy,which is very active in Egypt (see page 20),sold the bulk of its interests in Tunisia to a third Canadian company,Candax,last year,but retained some assets,including its interest in the Mellita tract.
