Ohio University to exit coal heating by year end

Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, plans to add two temporary natural gas boiler units to the Lausche Heating Plant in December to meet a university commitment to stop burning coal on campus by the end of this year. The Lausche plant, which provides heating and cooling service to all campus buildings, currently operates with two coal boilers and two natural gas boilers. When the temporary natural gas boilers are in place in December, the two coal boilers will be shut down and changed out for dual fuel boilers that can operate on natural gas or diesel fuel, Ohio University said.
