Powder River basin (PRB) coal production rose in the frst quarter, but benefts from increased demand were partly offset by rail delays. The PRB produced 101.2mn short tons (91.78mn metric tonnes) of sub-bituminous coal in the frst quarter, an increase of 2.1pc from frst quarter 2013, but down 7.5pc from the same 2012 period, according to Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) data.
