US coal exports rose in February from a year earlier as increased deliveries to Asia helped offset a drop in shipments to Europe. Overseas shipments from US ports rose to 8.63mn short tons (7.83mn metric tonnes) from 8.46mn st in February 2012, according to US Census Bureau data released today. Coking coal gains were stronger than thermal, with the former's exports jumping to 5.32mn st from 5.18mn st. Steam trade edged up to 3.31mn st from 3.29mn a year earlier.
