STB reopens Tongue River rail project review

The Surface Transportation Board is reopening the environmental review of the Tongue River Railroad after a federal court partially overturned its decision from nearly three decades ago allowing for development of a rail line into the Montana portion of the Powder River basin. The railroad must submit a new application, including environmental data, for the entire project while the board conducts a new environmental review based upon an order from the US Appeals Court for the Ninth Circuit.
