Northern App coal output slips amid mine outages

Northern Appalachian coal production dropped slightly in the second quarter from the year-ago period amid outages at some of the basin's largest mines, according to preliminary Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) data. Production totaled 32.22mn short tons (29.22mn metric tonnes) compared with 32.55mn st in the second quarter of 2012, about a 1pc drop.
