Colombia boosts output in second quarter

Colombia's coal production rose by 15.1pc on the year in the second quarter as output climbed from large open pit mines in the Cesar and Guajira provinces. But full-year production will likely be lower than previously expected after a recent strike on the Fenoco railway. Colombia, the world's fifth largest coal exporter, produced 23.4mn metric tonnes of coal in April-June, a record high for the quarter, compared with 20.3mn mt in the same period last year, according to government mining unit UPME.
