CAPITOL AGGREGATES BEGINS CO_2-CAPTURE PILOT PROJECT

At the Capitol Aggregates Ltd. San Antonio cement plant, Phase 1 of the Capitol-SkyMine pilot project has been initiated to convert flue gases emitted during powder production to industrial chemicals, such as baking soda. Researchers will test a carbon-mineralization process engineered by Skyonic Corp. The carbon-capture technology company received a $3 million "Carbon Capture and Sequestration from Industrial Sources and Innovative Concepts for Beneficial CO_2 Use" grant administered by the Department of Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory (DOE/NETL). Private investors are contributing the balance of Phase I funds.
