Researchers produce jet fuel from coal, biomass

The Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) at the University of North Dakota has produced jet fuel from a combination of coal and biomass feedstocks using a “direct liquefaction process” that can be tailored to meet US military applications, the university said. The fuel is being produced under a cooperative agreement with the US Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory as part of EERC's efforts to broaden fuel output beyond petroleum feedstocks.
