Eastern US barge coal prices rise on API 2 surge

Appalachian barge coal climbed in the US over-the-counter coal market today, supported by gains for European coal swaps. NYMEX-spec coal traded several times, with April going at $75.25/short ton and $75.50/st, up by as much as $2/st on the day. The third quarter of 2011 traded twice at $78/st, up $2/st, while the fourth quarter of 2011 changed hands at $79.35/st and $79.50/st, gaining up to $1.50/st from last session.
