EPA asked to defend new ozone standards

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should give scientific and economic justification for imposing tighter ozone standards that may be “extraordinarily expensive and unworkable,” congressional representatives said on 11 June. Reps. Joe Barton (R-Texas), ranking member on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Michael Burgess, (R-Texas), ranking member of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, asked EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson to further defend proposed ozone standards that will affect at least 515 of the 675 counties that currently monitor ozone levels.
