Pitt Seam steady on tightening supplies

Pittsburgh Seam physical coal markets were flat this week, with coal supply tightening even as demand softened. Consol Energy today said it will close Mine 84 in December, saying the Washington, Pennsylvania mine's cost structure made it uncompetitive. The mine produced both coking and thermal coal but has not produced anything so far this year. Mine 84's output totaled 514,047 short tons (466,336 metric tonnes) in 2009 and 1.84mn st in 2008.
