PGE seeks early closure for Boardman station

Portland General Electric (PGE) submitted a proposal to Oregon regulators April 2 seeking to revise a regional haze rule so the utility can close its 600MW Boardman pulverized coal station in 2020, 20 years ahead of schedule. If the state Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) accepts PGE's request for the revision, the utility may avoid installing certain air pollution controls that it would have had to install if the plant were to close in 2040, reducing costs by as much as $480mn.
