Teck posts record third-quarter revenue

Increased coal sales helped Canadian miner Teck Resources grow its third-quarter profit 44pc from the year-ago period, the company reported late yesterday, while revenues hit record levels. Teck achieved quarterly earnings of C$609 million, or C$1.07/share, compared with C$424 million, or C95 cents/share, in the same period last year. Coal production jumped to 5.3 million metric tonnes (mt), up 148pc from 2.2 million mt a year ago, following Teck's acquisition of Fording Canadian Coal in October 2008. Coal sales volume grew 138pc on the year to 5.7 million mt in the quarter.
