Several major passenger and cargo airlines have signed non-binding supply agreements with two US alternative jet fuel producers, one of which could provide fuel derived from coal. Rentech is planning a 16,308 b/d production facility in Adams County, Miss., that would initially use coal and petroleum coke as feedstock and could later incorporate biomass. Meanwhile, AltAir Fuels plans to develop a plant in Anacortes, Wash., in conjunction with refiner Tesoro that will use the Montana-grown camelina plant as feedstock.
