Gradients of diffusible molecular species that don't fluctuate in space and time are difficult to create and maintain in free solution.To overcome this limitation,Hongkai Wu and colleagues at Tsinghua University (China)and Stanford University have developed a technique that accurately creates complex,steady gradients inside microfluidic channels without any solution flow.
