Mark Greene and colleagues at the University of Pennsylvania have developed a method that is 100,000 X more sensitive than ELISAs for detecting proteins in serum.Called the fluorescent amplification catalyzed by T7 polymerase technique (FACTT),the new approach could make it easier to diagnose diseases,such as breast cancer and Alzheimer's disease,on the basis of low-abundance protein biomarkers.
