Lycopodium alkaloids have unique skeletal characteristics and a variety of biological activities, such as acetylcholine esterase (AChE) inhibition and neurite outgrowth promotion, which have sustained the interest of many researchers of natural product chemistry, synthetic chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. In particular, the structural diversity of fawcettimine-type Lycopodium alkaloids has attracted the attention of several groups as targets for total synthesis.
