Alkynes are important building blocks and synthons for the construction of a variety of interesting and useful molecules.Since the discovery of the formation of benzene from acetylene by Berthelot and Reppe et al.,this formal[2+2+2]cyclotrimerization has become an elegant method for the generation of benzene derivatives and polycyclic aromatic compounds,and several metal catalysts have been developed for this reaction.
