Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) drew red ink in the fourth quarter on the back of a noncash asset impairment charge of $260 million for its Mesabi Nugget LLC operations in Minnesota. “The company assessed the carrying value of the operation’s fired assets during the fourth quarter, and determined that the future estimated cash flows did not support the values in place,” Fort Wayne, Ind.-based SDI said in its fourth-quarter and full-year 2014 earnings report.
