Vale's base metals earnings hit by lower prices

Vale SA's base metals earnings fell sharply in the third quarter as the company was again hit hard by lower nickel prices.Adjusted base metals earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (Ebitda) totaled $193 million for the three months ended Sept. 30, down 75.3-percent from $781 million in the year-earlier quarter, the company said Oct. 22, citing lower nickel prices.
