AJP-Cell Physiology initiates publication of the Hans H. Ussing Lecture.

in 2007 the Epithelial Transport Group (ETG) of the American Physiological Society decided to name a lecture to be presented at the Experimental Biology meeting in honor and memory of Professor Hans Henriksen Ussing (1911-2000) so as to recognize investigators who, similar to Professor Ussing, have made major contributions to the understanding of epithelial ion and water transport. The seminal work of Professor Ussing, initially with the frog skin and making extensive use of the Ussing Chamber, defined the mechanisms for active transport (cotransport and counter-transport), passive transport, and ion exchange mechanisms for sodium and other cations and anions with important applications in renal and intestinal epithelia.
