perioperattve acute renal failure (ARF) is a serious and frequent complication without effective therapy (1, 10, 22, 26). Development of perioperative ARF implies a poor prognosis with high mortality and is frequently complicated by many other life-threatening conditions, including respiratory failure, sepsis, and a multiorgan dysfunction syndrome (1, 10, 22, 23). Unfortunately, the mortality and morbidity rates from perioperative ARF have changed little over the past 50 years (10).
