Although 11,12,15-THETA has been identified as the vaso-dilatory 15-LO metabolite produced by rabbit endothelium, the stereochemical configuration of this THETA is not known. The rabbit endothelium contains 15-LO and produces the 5 isomer of 15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid at 96% optical purity (21, 26). Thus the 15-hydroxy group has the S configuration. The amount of 11,12,15-THETA produced by the aorta is not adequate for stereochemical determination of the 11- and 12-hydroxyl groups.
