Monsanto has sold the commercial rights to its alfalfa research collaboration with Land O'Lakes subsidiary Forage Genetics International (FGI) to its partner and licensed certain intellectual property rights related to alfalfa traits and technology to FGI. Monsanto has received a one-time upfront licensing fee of $210 million for these rights. The move will support the continued expansion of genetically modified glyphosate-tolerant Roundup Ready alfalfa and the low-lignin HarvXtra alfalfa, the companies state.
