NAFTA partners report on five-year pesticide plan

Joint reviews on 15 conventional pesticide active ingredients were conducted by NAFTA partners between 2008 and 2013, according to a progress report on the third five-year plan by the NAFTA Technical Working Group (TWG) on pesticides. In 2008, the regulatory authorities in the US, Canada and Mexico gave a commitment to work more closely together to co-ordinate the registration of new and existing pesticides and to extend the process to re-registration activities. The TWG points to joint reviews on: the herbicides, pyroxsulam and thiencarbazone-methyl, the safener, cyprosulfamide, and the insecticides, chlorantraniliprole and spirotetramat (all 2008); the herbicide, saflufenacil (2010); the fungicides, ametoctradin, fluopyram, fluxapyroxad, penflufen, penthiopyrad, picoxystrobin, sedaxane, and the herbicide, pyroxasulfone (all 2012); and the insecticides, cyantraniliprole and sulfoxaflor (both 2013). There were also approvals for the fungicides, mandipropamid (2008), metrafenone (2010) and ethaboxam (2013), and the bactericide, kasugamycin (2013), under work sharing schemes.
