Monsanto/Dow file suit to block US Maui GM crop ban

Monsanto and Dow AgroSciences’ subsidiary Agrigenetics filed suit on Thursday last week in a US federal court to block implementation of Maui County in Hawaii’s ban on genetically modified crops. The 49-page complaint argues that the local Hawaiian ordinance violates federal, state and local law and calls on the court to declare it invalid. The lawsuit was the second filed in a week in response to the narrow approval of the ordinance by county voters on November 4th. Proponents filed a complaint on Wednesday in state court in a bid to ensure that the local law was implemented and enforced in a timely manner.
