Bayer to expand global seed HQ

Bayer CropScience is to expand its North American and global seeds headquarters. The US-based Research Triangle Park (RTP), North Carolina facilities are to gain a 29,500 sq ft (2,740 m2) greenhouse (GH1) as part of a $29.6 million upgrade. The new facility will accommodate the company's seed trait research, providing dedicated and isolated greenhouse space for insect testing, consolidated space for nematode trait research, and the capability for ground-breaking plant disease research, the company says. Construction of the greenhouse will start late this summer with anticipated completion for late 2015. It follows the opening of a $20 million, 60,000 sq ft greenhouse in July 2012, focusing on maize, soybean and other broad acre crop research.
