USDA drops GMO rule over CBI concerns

The USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has pulled the plug on a rule that would have made it easier for the agency to share confidential business information (CBI) about genetically modified organisms with states and tribal agencies. The APHIS proposed the rule in February 2013, touting it as needed to improve the agency's ability to share information with state and tribal regulators about ongoing reviews of GMOs, boost oversight of GMO introductions and strengthen federal compliance activities.
