Effect of salt stress on seed germination in wild jujube

Soil salinization is a global agriculture problem. The effect of salt stress on seed germination in wild jujube was studied. Seed germination rate, germination potential, germination index, radicle length and dry weight of wild jujube were decreased withthe increase of salt concentration, and the salt resistance of wild jujube seeds from different provenance was different. Germination rate of wild jujube seed from Hebei was not sensitive to salt stress, while the seeds from Shanxi and Ningxia were sensitive to salt. Under salt concentration more than 0.3%, seed germination rate of wild jujube was significantly lower than control. It was not significant differences in seed germination potential of wild jujube from Liaoning among the four treatments. Under different salt concentrations, there was no significant difference in salt injury index of wild jujube seed from Hebei, Liaoning, Shanxi and Ningxia. Salt injury index of wild jujube seeds from Ningxia was significantly higher than that of Shaanxi and Liaoning under salt stress of 0.3%. Moreover, salt concentration was positively correlated with salt injury index in seeds of wild jujube.
