Brokering knowledge on underutilised species: CFF's web platform.

A priority area for Crops for the Future (CFF) is the development and deployment of an easy to use website and portal that will satisfy the needs of the diverse, dispersed and large community of stakeholders dealing with underutilised species. The different services supporting the delivery of strategic outputs that allow greater use of underutilised species will be presented. These web services provide a space for discussion and add functionalities to CFF web platform including knowledge brokerage, tools for policy development, awareness raising and capacity building. To invite and involve the community dealing with underutilised species, we will rely on Web2.0 technologies that allow the users to play an active role and pursue the organisation's commitment to participatory action, foster new contacts and partnerships while reviving and strengthening the networks inherited from CFF's predecessor organisations, the Global Facilitation Unit for Underutilized Species (GFU) and the International Centre for Underutilised Crops (ICUC). CFF intends to offer a Q&A service, regular news service through postings and a newsletter, databases on donors, funding opportunities, experts, projects, fact sheets on specific underutilised species and, above all, listening to its readers to better serve them by providing a flexible web platform that can further be shaped as stakeholder needs arise.
