Due to increased costs for the manual work in particularly, directed by sweet cherry growing trend in the world, in high density orchards, with trees grafted on dwarf vegetative rootstocks, which reduce the trees vigor, new pruning systems, precocity induction, phytoprotection treatments and fruit harvest techniques are needed. In this context, in 2009 spring, at the Research Institute for Fruit Growing Pitesti, an intensive cherry orchard with Romanian and foreign varieties, grafted on two rootstocks vegetative: 'Gisela 5' (German vegetative rootstock) and 'IP-C-7' (Romanian vegetative rootstock) was planted. To study the compatibility between cultivars and rootstocks, and the specific tree growth and fructification, at the end of the second year of vegetation were determined some biological parameters (trunk diameter, length and number of shoots, flowering buds). The results show that at this stage of tree growing there is good compatibility - A type, between varieties and the rootstocks studied. The highest number of shoots per tree was determined on 'Ferovia/Gisela 5' (32 shoots), and on 'Daria/IP-C-7' (23 shoots) varieties. The highest number of flowering buds per tree was determined on the variety 'Skeena/Gisela 5', and on 'Maria/IP-C-7' variety. The positive correlation between the number of shoots/tree and the number of flowering buds/tree, shows a balance between growth and fructification at the varieties 'Skeena/Gisela 5', and 'Maria/IP-C-7'.
