Chanthaburi Horticultural Research Center has currently studied the effects of potassium chlorate and partial cincturing to carbohydrate reserves in rambutan during flowering period at farmer orchard in Chanthaburi, with four treatments of potassium chlorate (KClO3) at 15 g m-2 soil application, partial cincturing and KClO3 at 15 g/m2 soil application followed by partial cincturing, compared to untreated trees. The total nonstructural carbohydrate contents (TNC) and total nitrogen concentrations (TN) in leaves throughout the last vegetative flushes and the panicle emergence were determined. In general, during the course of flowering, the concentrations of TN continued similarly range 1.9-2.1% whilst the contents of TNC in leaves trended to increase until approximately 2 weeks prior inflorescence when a gradual decline followed. Since a trend to high relation between level of TNC and the time of flowering was obtained, in case of partial cincturing and KClO3 at 15 g m-2 soil application followed by partial cincturing were pronounced in advanced flowering by 14-16 d than the untreated application. There were no differences in number of panicles, fruit setting and yields. The approach application could be an optional management practice in enhancing early-season rambutan flowering.
