Application of parthenocarpy in genetic purification of walnut variety.

The Reproductive Genetic Theory believes that the genotype of diploid plant obtained by parthenocarpy is pure. Juglans regia plants, characterized by early maturity, and giving rise to parthenocarpic fruits exist in the Chinese Xinjiang Province. Using the early maturation character and inducing the segregation, we obtained more than 480 walnut parthenocarpic fruits. This method could generate valuable cultivars in a relatively short period of time, and could be a useful tool to fix characters in the genetic improvement programmes..
