AK Coal finally gets PA permit for new Polaris met coal mine

The Pennsylvania Department ofEnvironmental Protection has approved a state mining permit for AKCoal Resources’ new Polaris underground metallurgical coal mine inSomerset County, a DEP spokesman said Thursday.Neil Shader said in an email that the permit recently was grantedby his agency, more than a year after the application was submitted bythe subsidiary of West Chester, Ohio-based AK Steel. The permit runsthrough October 24, 2021.
