Kentucky co-op to buy 594-MW Bluegrass gas-fired plant from LS Power

East Kentucky Power Cooperative plans to buy the 594-MW Bluegrass Generation natural gasfired, merchant peaking plant in LaGrange, Kentucky, from LS Power in an effort to diversify its coal-heavy portfolio and achieve more power price certainty, it said Monday. East Kentucky, a generation and transmission co-op, asked the Kentucky Public Service Commission in a filing to approve the acquisition by December 1. If so, the deal would close by December 31, it said.
