Coal traffic up in 2014 on G&W railroad, slight growth seen for 2015

Genesee & Wyoming’s thermal coal and coke shipments were up 10% overall in 2014, but the railroad has much more modest expectations of 2% for a carload increase this year, it said Tuesday. The Darien, Connecticut-based company reported 355,762 coal carloads in North America and Europe in 2014, up from 323,500 carloads the previous year. Coal shipments accounted for 20% of 2014 railway traffic, up slightly from 19.6% in 2013.
