New urea policy 2015: Positive for urea industry

The Government of India (Gol) notified the 'New Urea Policy -2015' (NUP) on May 25, 2015 post approval by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on May 13, 2015, which has principal objectives of maximizing domestic urea production and promoting energy efficiency in urea units to rationalize subsidy burden. The policy aims at reducing the pre-set energy consumption norms and it also incentivizes urea units to maximize their production at the same time. The NUP is effective from June 1, 2015 to March 31, 2019. The provisions of new pricing scheme (NPS)-III and modified NPS-III were applicable till May 31, 2015.
