Subsidised urea being smuggled to chemical industry-Fertiliser Minister

Over 3-mt of subsidised urea have being siphoned off to other sectors, largely the chemical industry, according to Fertiliser Minister, Mr. Srikant Jena. The phenomenon was largely seen in industrial hubs of the country, he said. Urea, which is highly subsidised by the government for fanners, is currently priced at Rs. 5,360 a tonne. It is widely used for dyeing, inks, coatings, plastics and paints.
