India's API industry set to build on strong position on world stage

The market for active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and advanced intermediates made under Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) conditions -collectively termed as pharmaceutical fine chemicals - is one in which India has a significant worid presence thanks to decades of efforts in growing and nurturing the market. Many of India's leading pharmaceutical companies are leading producers of APIs (this term is used loosely here to include advanced intermediates), to serve not just captive requirements, but also merchant markets. In addition, there are at least a 100+ producers who serve just the merchant API markets - without any presence in formulated products.
