Planning Commission calls for fertiliser-crop price linkages to reduce subsidy bill

The Planning Commission has proposed a linkage between fertiliser prices and minimum support prices (MSP) of fertiliser-intensive crops such as wheat, paddy and sugarcane to rein in the fertiliser subsidy. In the mid-term appraisal (MTA) of the 11th Five Year Plan that was approved by National Development Council recently, the commission has noted the alarming rise in fertilisers subsidy in recent years due to different reasons.
