Petroleum Ministry examining options to charge market price for APM gas for non-fertiliser use

The Petroleum Ministry has for long been trying to elicit information from two fertiliser companies - Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers Ltd (RCF) and Deepak Fertilizers & Petrochemicals Ltd (DFPCL) - on the quantum of APM gas they consume in manufacture of chemicals (mostly, methanol and its derivatives) as against fertilisers. The Ministry had clarified in July 2006 that APM gas supplied by GAIL should be used only to produce fertilisers and not chemicals, while market prices should apply for gas used to make non-fertiliser products.
