Dow Chemical to close three more plants in US, cuts ethylene production

Dow Chemical will close three plants in Louisiana (USA) as part of a shift away from basic chemicals towards speciality chemicals. The latest restructuring move aims to shut down manufacturing assets related to ethylene and ethylene-derivative assets in the company's basic chemicals portfolio, including an ethylene cracker, an ethylene oxide/ ethylene glycol production unit and an ethylene dichloride and vinyl chloride monomer facility. These shutdowns are in addition to numerous other ethylene-derivative closures that have occurred as part of the restructuring programme announced in the fourth quarter of 2008.
