Biotechnology strategy to combat plant infestation transferred for commercial development

The garlic lectin gene from Bose Institute, Kolkata and modified Bt gene from Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat are being transferred to Indian private sector companies for commercial product development, and to the University of Agriculture Sciences, Dharwad, for development of products to the resource-poor. The technology transfer agreements in this regard were signed in New Delhi on 31 August, in the presence of Mr. Prithviraj Chavan, Minister of Science and Technology, Government of India.
