Impose uniform VAT of 8% on petrol&diesel:ASSOCHAM

The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India(Assocham)has suggested that a uniform VAT of 8% be levied on petrol and diesel so that oil companies are able to stand the bur--den of rising prude oil prices.Although sales tax has been abolished,state governments continue to subject oil companies to the tax,which varies from 33% to 18.9% in case of petrol and 34% to 8.23% for diesel.
